Our Story

Lauren and Aaron, the founders of LactSafe

My name is Lauren.

In 2019, I had two back-to-back major surgeries while I was breastfeeding. When I asked whether the medications were safe to take while nursing, I got hesitation, conflicting guidance, and no clear answer. One doctor said it was fine. Another said pump and dump. I was exhausted, recovering from surgery, and still needed to feed my baby. The last thing I had the capacity for was sorting through conflicting information on my own.

That experience stuck with me. In 2020 I got my CLC certification, and it only deepened my understanding of just how hard it is to get quick, reliable answers on medication safety while breastfeeding. LactMed is an incredible resource, but when you're post-surgery or down bad with a cold and need to feed your baby, reading through medical jargon isn't realistic.

Then this past spring, I was 41 weeks pregnant with the worst sinus infection of my life. I was on medication my midwife had approved, but it wasn't working and I needed something stronger. When I saw a specialist, I was told there were medications safe for breastfeeding, except they weren't actually safe to take at all. And when I pushed back, I was told:

"If it's safe for pregnancy, it's safe for breastfeeding."

It's not.

That moment is why LactSafe exists. My husband Aaron built the platform, and together we've spent the past year making NIH LactMed® data actually accessible. Plain language, color-coded, and fast, for the parents who need it most.

If any of this sounds familiar, I'd love to hear from you. Whether you're a mom who's been through the same thing or a provider who sees this gap every day, reach out at .
